Orange is California's best city to live in, according to a new ranking by a real estate website.

Movoto.com ranked Orange at the top of its inaugural ranking of cities with more than 100,000 residents in the Golden State.

“The city of Orange handedly took the top spot on our list, beating out 369 other places,” according to the website. “Where the city excelled was for its unemployment rate, amenities and weather.”

Movoto is among a growing number of real estate websites that allow users to sort through listings and search for agents. The company releases similar reports periodically for other states, including rankings on safest communities.

Cities in California were measured on criteria including cost of living, median home price, median rent price, median household income, student-teacher ratio, crime rates, tax rates and weather.

Other Orange County cities dominated the Top 10. They include No. 2 Placentia, No. 3 Irvine, No. 5 San Juan Capistrano and No. 6 Cypress.

“We knew it all the time,” Mayor Teresa “Tita” Smith said of the city's top ranking. “We have residents throughout Orange with tremendous pride in their homes and neighborhoods.”
